I came back from my trip to a far away country and realized that South Africa has some special things that make living easy and enjoyable. I would like to give some insight into what I mean.
First and foremost, I need to put the weather in top position. We may have been blessed with lots of rain, but the moment it stops and the clouds open up we are in heavenly weather. Our restaurant relies on this, as most of our tables are outside in a tranquil garden with lovely flowers, shrubs and trees and a view to the start of the Zwartkop mountain range. If I look back, over the last couple of months, every weekend was magnificent and besides the regulars who know our place and food, new customers were surprised to see such a view and garden tucked away in a valley close to the hustle and bustle of suburb living.
On my trip to this far away land, I encountered nearly four seasons in one day and if it wasn’t for the wind the snow would have fallen even though it was midsummer. A morning with glorious summer weather, changing into overcast with rain heavy winds and hail with mountains covered in snow, to a sudden change of clear skies and very hot sunshine where a hat is a necessity. We seem to have a greater balance in South Africa and although our change of seasons is hardly noticeable, we do have a winter and distinct summer.
While I was away I had the opportunity to taste different foods prepared locally. The taste and preparation was enjoyably surprising. It made me realize that change is necessary and we are bringing out a new menu by the end of the month. This will be an exciting change bringing the coffee kitchen into the shop with its coffee smell and freshly backed treats. The new menu will suit the person who wants their taste buds delighted.
For three weeks, in a country side with very big lakes snow topped mountains and a great atmosphere, made me realize that we should have little to complain about as South Africa has its uniqueness and great mix of cultures that live side by side. We need to fight for our country to ensure that we all can live harmoniously together. This is the year in which we should speak up for things that we see need change. If we all do the right thing, it will be noticed and positive change will take place.
The country I visited is very strict in its road rules and everyone drives the speed limit. Interestingly enough their lives are planned taking this into account and you will arrive at your destination on time. If you come to us from the traffic-congested Hendrik Potgieter road and turn into our country lane reduce your speed and enjoy the view of horses and cultivated land so that you arrive relaxed at our restaurant.
Leisure time, in that far away country, is family time and many residents are jogging, cycling or walking their dogs to stay healthy and fit. We encourage you to come to our restaurant not just for the food, but to spend some time walking around the property to admire the magnificent view from the garden. It will bring peace to your soul and quietness to your mind, rejuvenating you for the days ahead. If you want to bring your dog, you are welcome
